In The Adventures of Pinocchio, Pinocchio kills the cricket who comes to warn him, revealing his early impulsive and cruel nature. In rural Taiwan, children once played a game called “cricket flooding,” pouring water into burrows to force hidden crickets to emerge and capture them. This work combines these two contexts. At the moment the cricket is forced out of its shelter, Pinocchio chooses not to catch it, but to strike it with a hammer, highlighting the tension between innocence and violence.
